The M.Voc. (Master of Vocation) program in Plastic & Recycling Technology is designed to equip students with specialized knowledge and practical skills in the field of plastics engineering and recycling. This program aims to address the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste while also harnessing the potential of plastics as a versatile and sustainable material.
Students enrolled in this program undergo comprehensive training in various aspects of plastics engineering and recycling. They study topics such as polymer science, polymer processing technologies, plastic product design, quality control, and regulatory aspects of the plastics industry. Additionally, students learn about the chemistry, properties, and manufacturing processes of plastics, gaining a deep understanding of different types of plastics and their applications.
One of the key focuses of the curriculum is plastic recycling. Students learn about the principles and techniques of plastic recycling, including collection, sorting, cleaning, shredding, melting, and extrusion processes used to convert post-consumer and post-industrial plastic waste into reusable raw materials or products. They also explore the challenges and opportunities associated with recycling plastics and the development of innovative solutions to improve recycling efficiency and product quality.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning through laboratory exercises, industrial visits, and projects related to plastic processing, recycling, and sustainable materials development. Students gain practical experience in analyzing and characterizing plastic materials, optimizing processing parameters, troubleshooting common problems, and developing eco-friendly materials and processes.
Furthermore, sustainability and environmental stewardship are integral components of the program. Students learn about the importance of adopting circular economy principles, reducing plastic waste, promoting recycling, and minimizing the environmental impact of plastic production and consumption.
Upon graduation, students are well-prepared to pursue careers in various sectors of the plastics and recycling industry. They can work in plastic manufacturing companies, recycling facilities, research and development laboratories, government agencies, environmental consulting firms, and non-profit organizations. Career opportunities include roles such as plastics engineers, recycling coordinators, sustainability managers, quality assurance specialists, product designers, and environmental consultants. Graduates play a crucial role in developing sustainable solutions for managing plastic waste and conserving natural resources.
